SAFECOM Rescinds Offer to Purchase Lameroo Administration Office
The South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission (SAFECOM) has formally advised Southern Mallee District Council that it has withdrawn its offer to purchase the Lameroo Council Administration Office.
SAFECOM has indicated that its decision was made in light of community sentiment expressed during the recent public consultation periods.
Council undertook the required statutory consultation process to ensure transparency and provide the community with an opportunity to share its views on the proposal. While there were differing perspectives, the debate and discussion throughout the consultation period was, in the main, conducted respectfully and in the spirit of community engagement.
Mayor Ron Valentine said Council appreciated the respectful manner in which the community engaged with the issue.
“While this was a matter that generated strong and differing views, I am pleased that the discussion was largely undertaken with respect,” Mayor Valentine said.
“Council’s responsibility is to carefully consider long-term sustainability while listening to our community. We thank residents for taking the time to participate in the consultation process.”
The Lameroo Administration Office will remain under Council ownership and continue to operate as it does currently.
Council remains committed to responsible financial management and will continue to explore opportunities that strengthen long-term sustainability and deliver value for ratepayers across the district.
